DescriptionAscendEX (formerly BitMax) ceased operations around July 1, 2026 after on-chain investigator ZachXBT flagged widespread withdrawal delays and near-empty hot wallets. In its July 6 notice the exchange said unresolved balances 'could be handled through a formal insolvency process if initiated', but as of mid-July no formal insolvency had been commenced. This event resolves YES if, on or before August 18, 2026 23:59 UTC, AscendEX or any of its group/operating entities in any jurisdiction (including ASCENDEX SOLUTIONS in Singapore or AscendEX Technology S.R.L.), or a court/regulator acting against any such entity, formally commences an insolvency, bankruptcy, liquidation, winding-up, judicial management, administration, or equivalent legal proceeding, confirmed by an official AscendEX notice or a court/regulatory filing. This event resolves NO if no such proceeding is formally commenced by the deadline.
1. Specificity: A filed/commenced legal proceeding (bankruptcy, liquidation, winding-up, judicial management, administration) against any AscendEX group/operating entity in any jurisdiction counts as YES.
2. Exclusion: Mere warnings, withdrawal freezes, operational shutdown, MiCA non-compliance, or statements that insolvency 'could' be initiated do NOT count.
3. Source Hierarchy: Official AscendEX notices (ascendex.com) priority. Relevant court/regulatory filings secondary. Reputable crypto media (ZachXBT posts, CoinDesk) tertiary.
4. Timing: Must occur before August 18, 2026 23:59 UTC. Post-deadline resolves NO.
5. Withdrawn-Proceeding Rule: If a proceeding is formally commenced then later withdrawn before the deadline, this event still resolves YES based on the first commencement date.
